Is Somaliland a democratic country?

In my view and philosophy, Somaliland isn't a democratic country. It's indirect defacto constitutional monarchy, It's a proof of the way to elect seats in the country, but many people claim that the democratic process of the country's electoral system and the general structure of the society is a witness to the religion of Islam which has been promoted through democracy, but the matter is different.

In 1960, when we got our independence from the British Empire, they did not give us any education about government building and how to manage a society that is under a colonial or a former British colony.I'm referring to these points as a form of government that was under the control of a monarchy that was far from the democracy we claim today, and was based on a divide and rule, the goal was to extend the reign of the queen from sunrise to sunset.

Immediately, traditional elders of the British colonies in Somaliland requested the queen to immediately leave the country she and her rule unconditionally, but that decision was the hardest and not suitable decision, and it showed a lot of haste. Although some historians argue that it was a fruitful decision.

As we move on beyond that a brief history, after the return of lost independence in 1960, the government that was born in 1991 came in a selection, and it was headed by the SNM militia commonders, who fought against the military brutal dictatorial regime of Mohamed Siad Bare.

After two years, a civilian government was established in a political system that isn't much different from the previous one, but the leadership of the government this time of transition's a seasoned politician, and that's when I can say that the foundation of Somaliland's democracy was laid before it died.

May Allah have mercy on Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Igal, he's the father of the democratic process that Somaliland has lost again.
